BE Grassroots Championships update

We thought it was a good time to provide you with an update on where we currently are in the process of replacing the BE90 & BE100 Science Supplements Cup competition for 2021,  the BE80 Championship venue allocation for 2021 and an update on qualification for the Scottish Grassroots Championships.

Following the sad announcement that Badminton Horse Trials 2021 would not be taking place, we have surveyed all riders qualified to compete at the BE90 & BE100 Science Supplements Cup in 2021 to ask whether the preference was for us to find an alternative venue for the Championships, or for those qualified to have the opportunity to enter an Area Festival in 2021 to provide the chance to qualify again for 2022.  The overwhelming majority preferred an alternative location to host the Championships in 2021.

We asked Organisers for an Expression of Interest from those who may be interested in hosting the Championships this year, followed up by full tender documentation.  The closing date for this was 16 April.

As you may also recall, we went out to tender earlier this year for a replacement BE80 Championship venue.    As one of the venues has expressed an interest in hosting all three Championships together, we need to consider the BE80 Championship tender alongside those for the BE90 & BE100 Science Supplements Cup applications to ensure we consider all opportunities for our members.

We aim to conclude shortly and look forward to announcing the successful venue/s.

We have had some difficulties in finding a suitable venue for the Northern and Scottish Area Festival – in part due to the differences between the relaxation of COVID restrictions between England and Scotland.  However, following conversations with our Grassroots rider representative, we will continue to look for a Northern venue – albeit that it may run slightly later in the season to enable more of our members to be able to prepare and participate in that region.  Further information will follow.

Scottish Grassroots Championships

We are pleased to confirm that any combination qualified for the 2020 Scottish Grassroots Championship at BE90 and BE100 at Blair Castle, if still eligible, will have their qualification stand for the 2021 Championships due to be held 26-29 August at Blair Castle.

Combinations qualified at both BE90 and BE100 must compete at the higher level.

Qualification for the 2021 Scottish Grassroots Championships at Blair Castle now culminates on 19 July 2021 so there is still time to qualify. Further details on how to qualify can be found in the BE Members’ handbook.

Support events – enter early!

Please support events by getting your entries in ahead of 12 noon on ballot date. This is an important day as it is the decision to run (or not) date and helps us to decide whether there are sufficient entries to add extra days of competition too.

COVID-19 Sport protocols

Please remember that it is very important we all still stick to the protocols whilst on event.  You must respect social distancing and adhere to the guidelines in place.  We are relaxing the protocols where we can, in line with government guidance, however they are in place to keep all of us safe – and to keep our sport running.  Please ensure that anyone who is accompanying you to an event also understands the protocols that they must follow.
