Eventing Calendar Management
We know that many of you are keen to get back to sport as quickly as possible, and that there is increasing pressure for us to give you a date on when this will happen.
Whilst there has been no guidance from the government to provide a date by which competitive equestrian sport can recommence, we thought it would be useful for you to understand how we are managing the calendar to facilitate the restart.
Back when lockdown was first imposed in March, we made the decision to not open entries whilst restrictions were in place. It was felt that it was impossible to provide a ‘cancelled until’ date when there was so much uncertainty. We are continuing to move forward on this basis
We will continue to work with our Organisers, in particular those whose events are more currently affected, and will open entries when government guidance indicates that it is possible to do so. Events who reach the latest date on which they would start to accept entries and there is no clear indication will be marked as ‘Cancelled’.
Our intention is to put in a place a ‘Decision to Run Date’ for all events (in essence a ballot date), when an Organiser and venue can decide if they are willing and able to run, as from this date they will start to incur their most cost.
A part of our work with Organisers is to identify whether there is flexibility in dates and classes within our existing fixtures calendar, so that we understand the opportunities we have to reschedule events and insert fixtures where the overall calendar allows. We understand that England, Scotland and Wales are all slightly different in their approach to the relaxation of current restrictions and this will have an impact on our potential restart calendar.
We issued the first version of member communications to set out what we believe sport will look like when we can recommence earlier this week. This is work in progress and will continue to change and develop as we get closer to restart and with more guidance from the government.
One of our key principles is to provide a safe and viable sport for you all.
As soon as we have more information we will update you further, but in the meantime, stay safe and enjoy your horses!
