Retirement of BE Chairman
After four years as British Eventing Chairman, Paul Hodgson has announced that after his first term concludes at the end of December 2018, he has taken the decision to not stand for the position once again.
“It has been an honour and a privilege to serve our sport as a Director and Chairman of the Board and to witness the passion and success enjoyed by our members at all levels. But I now return to focus on our own businesses which require my full attention” said Paul.
Chief Executive of British Eventing David Holmes added, “Paul’s contribution as Chairman has been enormous. In the four years since he took on this role, BE has gone through very substantial change and encountered some difficult challenges. Paul’s drive and determination has piloted BE through many of these hurdles, and there is no doubt that he leaves BE in a much stronger condition than when he arrived. The Board now contains a number of very skilful people, and the team in the office are well positioned to take the sport forward based around our Strategic Goals”.
Paul will be handing over the Chairman role to current Board Director Fiona O’Hara, with Jude Matthews being appointed by the Board into the new role of Vice-Chairman.
Fiona is a Managing Director at leading global professional services company Accenture and specialises in operational excellence and business transformation. She owns 3 horses, an advanced dressage horse who she enjoys competing and two youngsters who she is looking forward to bringing on. Fiona has been a Board Director with British Eventing since 2017.
Jude Matthews has a skilled background in the financial services industry most recently working at leading firm Hargreaves Lansdown. Jude has been a non-executive Board Director at British Eventing for the past nine months having taken on the role of Commercial and Marketing Director and is a keen amateur event rider.
“I am delighted that the Board has asked me to take the reins as Chair and we all wish Paul every success with his business. We have recently agreed on 5 simple yet strategic objectives and I look forward to working with the Board to deliver those for the benefit and enjoyment of everyone involved in this great sport. ” said Fiona.
